A heightened tension prevails today at Lala Primary Health Centre, focusing on the unnatural death of a house wife. The woman, named Sayra Begum, succumbed to death during a sterilization camp organized at Lala Primary Health Centre.
After her demise, the body was taken to SK Ray Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, where her family expressed dissatisfaction with the circumstances.
Sayra Begum, a 32-year-old resident of Monachara village, had come to Lala Primary Health Centre for sterilization.
Unfortunately, she breathed her last during the sterilization process in the hospital’s operating theatre.
The hospital claims that Sayra Begum’s death was due to a heart attack or an increase in blood pressure leading to a cardiac arrest.
On the other hand, the family alleges negligence on the part of the Gynaecologist, Dr. Amit Ranjan Laskar, responsible for the sterilization. They suspect that the death resulted from the doctor’s negligence.
In the evening, Algapur MLA Nizamuddin Choudhury visited SK Ray Civil Hospital to meet Sayra Begum’s family. He revealed that Sayra was the wife of Abdul Hannan.
The family was not informed about the sterilization procedure, and they have filed a complaint at the police station.
Furthermore, Jahir Uddin Laskar, the central Secretary of the Rajor Dal, has issued a warning that if an investigation into the death of a woman in the village due to a doctor’s negligence is not announced, they will organize a larger protest.
Dr. Debabrata Dutta, the Superintendent of SK Ray Civil Hospital, mentioned that the exact cause of Sayra Begum’s death would be clarified in the forensic report.
According to government regulations, if a person dies during sterilization, the government provides financial compensation. Therefore, Sayra Begum’s family is also eligible for financial compensation.
