Parimal Suklabaidya, the Minister of Transport, Excise, and Fisheries of Assam, undertook a bike ride covering 5,000 Kilometers in the last two months.
This biking initiative aims to promote road safety by reducing accidents on the roads, organized by the Transport Department.
Minister Suklabaidya traversed every legislative constituency in his state, holding awareness sessions on road safety at schools, colleges, universities, markets, bus stands, and office premises.
Today, the Transport Minister, on his mission to travel to all the Legislative Assembly constituencies of Assam, reached the Algapur Constituency of Hailakandi District.
It was the last, the 126th constituency where Minister Parimal attended a road safety awareness meeting after reaching the spot by riding his Royal Enfield bike.
During the event, he highlighted the alarming statistics of road accidents in the state, emphasizing the need for increased awareness to curb this issue.
In an interview after the meeting, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya mentioned that in the past year, 3,296 people lost their lives in road accidents in the state, expressing concern shared by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma.
To address this issue, the Transport Department has decided to enhance awareness on road safety throughout the state. As part of this effort, a bike rally commenced on November 19, 2023, covering the entire state and concluding in Algapur today.
Minister Parimal faced challenges during this bike ride, especially attending crucial cabinet meetings en route. The journey required constant bike riding from 1 AM until 1:30 AM, covering 200-300 Kilometers daily for the 63-year-old minister.
Apart from the physical challenges, Minister Parimal actively participated in important tasks of the Transport Department, including signing documents while on the move.
He asserted that the collective effort through bike riding has made him capable of transforming road safety through a movement.
