In Hailakandi, a counterfeit packaged water syndicate has become active. Duplicate packages of drinking water are easily available in the Hailakandi market. Today, the Hailakandi administration has conducted an operation against this type of ‘low-quality’ drinking water.
This operation is being carried out in various shops in the town, including the Rabindra Mela. The administration initiated this operation after receiving complaints about the sale of adulterated water under the name of drinking water with stickers tampered to deceive consumers.
This morning, an operation led by ADC Tridib Roy and officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department was conducted at various stalls of the Rabindra Mela.
During the operation, several counterfeit water bottles were discovered, with two or three companies’ stickers on these 20-liter bottles. Additionally, some brands were selling low-quality water with bandaged packets and fake stickers. Later, all the adulterated water bottles were seized.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department has collected statements from several businessmen regarding this issue. Subsequently, a case has been filed against Pannalal Debnath, a resident of the adjacent Topkhana area near Hailakandi town, by the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
The case mentions the leveling of water bottles, manufacturing date, seal, and other deceptive practices without proper authorization.
Furthermore, ADC Tridib Ray mentioned that the syndicate of counterfeit packaged water has been active in Hailakandi for a long time.
After receiving complaints about the sale of duplicate packaged drinking water at the Rabindra Mela, today’s operation was initiated.
These counterfeit water products can pose health risks, prompting strict measures to be taken in this regard. Instructions have been given to the Food and Civil Supplies Department to file a case against water producers and suppliers involved in this malpractice.
