In this murder case of 2017, District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Hazarika sentenced seven accused,
namely Kamal Uddin Mazumdar, Fakrul Islam Laskar, Anwar Hussain Laskar, Asab Uddin Mazumdar, Nizamuddin Laskar, Enam Uddin Mazumdar, and Ainul Haque Laskar, to life imprisonment under sections 148/302 of the Indian Penal Code.
Additionally, they were fined 20,000 rupees each, and they will also undergo six months of additional imprisonment for non-payment.
Abdul Bari Mazumdar, of Lakminagar part1, murdered with a knife on August 8, 2017, while returning home from his shop.
After the incident, Abdul Bari Mazumdar’s wife, Zubaida Bibi Mazumdar, filed a case at the Hailakandi Sadar Police Station.
The police filed chargesheet in 2018 and the trial of this case began in court. During the trial, the court collected statements from 15 witnesses.
Under sections 147/148/149/341/326/302/34 of the Indian Penal Code, the police filed the chargesheet (476/2017) and submitted it to court.
On the other hand, during a press conference, Public Prosecutor Debojit Chakraborty stated that Abdul Bari was murdered due to long pending land dispute .
After presenting the necessary evidence in court through consistent witnesses, today, Judge Sanjay Hazarika delivered the final verdict.
