In the past two months, nearly 42,000 names of voters have been struck off from the electoral rolls in Karimganj parliamentary constituency. Most of the names deleted from the voter list were those of minority voters.
This interesting information has emerged in the final voter list published yesterday by the state election commission.
Compared to the previously published Draft Electoral rolls, 11,448 voters’ names have been cut from the Hailakandi district, and 30,048 voters’ names have been cut from the Karimganj district.
Most of the names removed from the voter list were included in multiple polling stations.
Additionally, names of voters residing outside the state or country have been scrutinized and excluded this time. Many deceased voters’ names have also been omitted.
The Delimitation has completely altered the political landscape of the Karimganj parliamentary constituency.
Previously, there were eight assembly centers in this constituency. The current number has reduced to six.
Karimgani is an open Parliamentary Constituency now dominated by Minority Voters.
Therefore, each voter in this center is being closely watched by political parties.
The final voter list published today mentions a total of 4,711,148 voters in two assembly centers in Hailakandi district.
However, in the Draft voter list published on December 8, the total number of voters in Hailakandi district was 482,591.
This means that , almost 11,000 voters have been excluded from Hailakandi District in the final voter list.
A similar picture has emerged in Karimganj district,also. According to the Draft voter list, the total number of voters in Karimganj district was 953,996.
However, names of around 31,000 voters have been removed from four assembly centers of Karimganj District in the final voter list published ,testerday.
The final voter list reveals that nearly 14,000 female voters in Karimganj district and 11,000 female voters in Hailakandi district have been omitted from the electoral rolls.
Most of the omitted female voters from the voter list had separate entries for their birthplace and husband’s residence.
Similarly, the final voter list for the Karimganj parliamentary constituency has seen nearly 42,000 names of voters being struck off, much to the delight of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Swapan Kumar Bhattacharya, the district president of the BJP, Hailakandi ,stated that the BJP had been raising concerns about duplicate names and deceased individuals in the voter list for a long time.
This time, the Election Commission has confirmed this information in the final voter list.
