In Hailakandi town of South Assam, a famous temple near the Hailakandi Rail station, the historic Hanuman Temple, witnessed a thrilling theft case in the wee hours of Saturday.
Thieves broke into the temple and decamped with the donation box containing cash of more than Rs 50,000, along with gold and silver jewellery of Hanuman and goddess Sita. Strong resentment prevails among the Hindu community members in the area regarding the theft.
Upon discovering the incident, the temple priest Ranjan Choubey and his family informed the police. Additional Police Super Samir Daptar Baruah and DSP Surajit Choudhary along with a huge team of Hailakandi police visited the site, recovering the broken donation box near the temple.
Some materials used during the theft were also found behind the temple. The thieves had broken the main door to enter and lifted the s donation box fixed there. Gold , Silver Jewelleries and other article of worship were also stolen.
A search operation by Hailakandi police has been initiated near the railway colony of Hailakandi town.
Five person have been detained in connection with the case, and an FIR filed by the temple committee has been registered at Hailakandi Police Station.
Meanwhile, members of Hindu Jagaran Mancha and Vishva Hindu Parishad have strongly condemned the theft incident and urged authorities to resolve the case within 24 hours.
