The By-Election process for Ward 12 of Hailakandi Municipality concluded on Tuesday, with a total of 930 individuals casting their votes, accounting for 59.84% voter turnout.
The results will be announced on December 21 at the district Commissioner’s office. Initial indications suggest a favourable outcome for the BJP candidate, supported by peaceful voting at two polling centres in the Indrakumari Girls Higher Secondary School.
Although the BJP expressed confidence, the election did not unfold entirely one-sided, with Congress candidate Mousumi Sharma actively fought the battle.
The BJP’s claim of gaining a significant percentage of votes contradicts the fact that the election was not entirely one-sided.
The atmosphere at the polling centers was festive, and voter turnout was monitored by Returning Officer Gautam Pratim Mahanta.
Of the total 1554 voters in Ward 12, 794 were male and 860 female. The BJP candidate Sudipta Sengupta seems to be hinted at for a favorable outcome.
The Congress, while behind in the numerical aspect, has shown resilience, with Independent Candidate Pinki Deb receiving good votes also. The final outcome remains uncertain until the results are officially declared on December 21.
