Continuous rainfall has led to the swelling of rivers in Hailakandi district, resulting in floods affecting 6,227 people across 31 villages.
As of Wednesday evening, 4,913 livestock have been impacted by the floods.
In the district, 14 villages in the Lala revenue circle, 10 villages in the Hailakandi revenue circle, 2 villages in the Algapur revenue circle, and 5 villages in the Katlichara revenue circle have been affected by the first wave of floods this year.
Two relief camps have been opened in each of the Lala, Hailakandi, and Katlichara revenue circles, providing shelter to 720 flood-affected people so far.
District Commissioner Nisarga Hivare, in a statement, appealed to the public not to engage in fishing and farming during the flood period.
Meanwhile, strict monitoring of the river embankments is being carried out by the administration.
