During the inaugural day of the Budget Session for the 15th Legislative Assembly, the Assam cabinet unveiled a robust “Examination Bill” aimed at rectifying discrepancies in recruitment exams across the state.
According to the provisions outlined in the bill, individuals caught cheating during examinations could face up to three years of imprisonment, coupled with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
Moreover, those found guilty of tampering with examination papers by licking them could incur fines ranging from Rs 10 lakh to a staggering Rs 10 crore, accompanied by a prison term of up to 10 years.
This comprehensive legislation extends its reach to all government-conducted examinations, including those administered by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), Guwahati High Court, State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC), as well as district-level recruitment exams for grades three and four.
Furthermore, it encompasses significant educational assessments such as the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, examinations conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, and the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
The introduction of this bill signifies a pivotal step towards ensuring integrity and fairness in the examination process, underscoring the government’s commitment to upholding standards of meritocracy and transparency in recruitment practices throughout Assam.
