Hailakandi, Dec 13: The Hailakandi District Sports Association is set to restart the cricket league after a four-year hiatus. The A-Division Cricket League, starting in March 2024, will mark the beginning of sporting events organized by the association.
The DSA president, Gautam Roy, mentioned that the current field maintenance phase is concluding, with the next steps involving grass plantation and the preparation of a cricket pitch, requiring an additional one to two months.
Following that, sporting activities will resume on Hailakandi’s playing field. However, Hailakandi will host the Assam Cricket Association’s Club Cup once again at the SS College grounds.
President Roy stated that despite the desire to organize the Club Cup at the new DS field, it’s not feasible, and the tournament will take place at the SS College grounds.
Notably, the Hailakandi District Sports Association’s field renovation work is progressing rapidly. The new contractor has committed to completing the field renovation by December 31, and current day-and-night work is ongoing.
Once the fieldwork concludes, attention will shift to fencing, soil disposal outside the fencing, and establishing a permanent water drainage system.
