The “Asomi Bhogali Mela” 2024 began on Wednesday in the Hailakandi district of Assam.
Organized by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, the fair was inaugurated by Jaydeep Shukla, the CEO of the Zila Parishad. This fair will continue at the local town hall until January 12.
In this year’s Bhogali Fair, members of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have opened 30 stalls. Additionally, there are stalls from government departments and banks.
During the event, Soumitra Dey, the District Project Manager of the Hailakandi District of the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission, mentioned that there are around 64,000 SHG members in the Hailakandi district, and they are involved in commendable work in various fields to improve the rural economy and empower women.
The CEO, Jaydeep Shukla, informed that 34 members of the SHGs in Hailakandi received loan sanction letters today. The administration, along with nationalized banks, has come forward to assist the women of the SHGs in Hailakandi with their financial needs.
Shukla expressed hope that the women of the SHGs in the district will contribute more actively to strengthen the rural economy compared to previous years.
The CEO also emphasized that the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission will actively work to empower rural women in Assam by promoting self-reliance, similar to their previous efforts. He expressed optimism that the Bhogali Fair will provide a platform for artists from different villages.
The opening ceremony of the Bhogali Mela also saw the presence of Assistant Commissioner Simanta Biswas, MP representative Debendu Chanda, renowned journalist Nilotpol Deb, and dentist Dr. MH Khandakar.
